Ministry of Education Diversity in Education Series

Nestled in the heart of Pōneke/Wellington, Mt. Cook School found itself at the intersection of innovation and education when the New Zealand Ministry of Education approached them for a unique undertaking. Tasked with showcasing the school's commitment to diversity and inclusivity while achieving educational objectives, Mt. Cook School turned to SHINY, a distinguished New Zealand production company.

In response to the Ministry's request, SHINY embarked on the creation of two impactful video productions. These videos weren't just a visual representation of the school's ethos; they were a testament to Mt. Cook School's dedication to fostering an inclusive and joyous learning environment. Through a careful blend of filmed interviews and captivating covering shots, SHINY brought to life the vibrant tapestry that defined the school's approach to diversity.

As the project evolved, SHINY's collaboration with the Ministry of Education expanded to encompass a broader scope. The production company took on the challenge of creating a series of 11 videos elucidating Te Ao Māori understanding in education, featuring subject matter experts. This endeavour involved extensive location shooting across Aotearoa, capturing the essence of diverse landscapes and communities. The subsequent translation and subtitling in both Te Reo and English ensured the broad accessibility of this educational content.

The linguistic versatility demonstrated in the Te Ao Māori series extended further as SHINY undertook the subtitling of a series of complex I.T.-focused teaching webinars for the Ministry. This intricate task required not only technical proficiency but also an understanding of educational nuances, showcasing SHINY's adaptability across diverse subject matters.

Beyond the lens, SHINY became an integral part of the Ministry of Education and Mt. Cook School's commitment to educational excellence.

The videos produced served as more than promotional material; they became tools for communication, understanding, and learning. The collaboration exemplified the power of visual storytelling in conveying complex educational concepts while fostering an environment of cultural appreciation and inclusivity.

In the end, these collaborations between the New Zealand Ministry of Education and SHINY transcended the realm of traditional videography. It became a narrative of education, diversity, and cultural understanding, showcasing the impact that well-crafted videos can have in shaping the ethos of a learning institution and contributing to a broader educational discourse.

SHINY is also proud to work closely with the Ngaio School Junior Journalist programme which serves to inspire the next generation of video storytellers in our communities, and with the Ngaio Community Creche for whom we freely developed and produced more than 60 social media promotional videos so that whanau could discover what a community treasure our local creche is.
