Video Editing
Video editing and storytelling is a craft, and it’s the basis of an end product that flows and has rhythm; that works on multiple levels and can contain some satisfying surprises and most importantly, connects with your audience. Our marketing experience in branding combined with more than 20 years editing lead news stories allows us to uniquely weave engaging video threads together to give you the most compelling video product.
We began as video and production editors, and learned from the best over 20 years. We’ve edited from Beijing to London, and San Francisco to Wellington, and at the Olympics, Wrestlemania and Waitangi. We’ve worked on some of New Zealand’s biggest news stories including the COVID pandemic, the Christchurch earthquake and 7 elections, and our work has been watched by more than 700,000 New Zealanders each night on 1 News. Storyboarding
Storyboards are great tools to keep everyone aprised of how the project is going to look once completed. They’re also a cost-effective method of giving stakeholders a clear opportunity to review and offer feedback before production so that everyone is onboard and there are no surprises down the track. SHINY has developed a clear and simple storyboarding process which is fast and looks great in your branded colours.
Scriptwriting
Not all video productions need a script but for those that do, the script becomes the backbone of the project. SHINY has been writing great scripts for a more than 20 years beginning with short films to most recently writing a series of 8 video scripts for the Ministry for Ethnic Communities which were then translated into 20 languages. We love taking your brief and messaging notes and giving them a refreshing, energetic tone. It’s a skill we learned from more than 20 years in news post production where the script rules, and acute writing is key to maintaining audience attention.
Project Management
We keep tabs on all elements of your project and are good at giving a gentle push when needed to keep things on track. We work on a staged sign-off basis meaning that stakeholders understand where projects are at and have agreed or amended elements before proceeding at each point. We work with Trello for project milestones and Frame.io for feedback and delivery.
Motion graphic animation design and creation
Our experience is that simple, clear, colourful motion graphics working in harmony with a good script is the most engaging way to get your message across with animation. We ensure that all aspects of our work reinforce the message together. This approach has worked successfully with clients from the Ministry of Defence, Inland Revenue, and the Ministry for Ethnic Communities among others.

Accurate subtitling in any language
Our attention to detail means you get accurate subtitling in any language using a mix of AI to transcribe and human talent to check and correct. We can deliver this closed, open, .srt and/or custom burnt-in subtitles.
SHINY works closely with the Translation Service to ensure accurate translation into any language which we then voice and subtitle using our own process that ensures quality and accuracy across cultures adhering to New Zealand Government best practice.
AV Services and Event Coverage
SHINY offers a complete package to cover your promotional and informational needs for social media, website and streaming delivery all with animated on-screen titles and graphics in your branding.
Our crews have expertly covered events and conferences for the past 15 years. We work with the latest technology to ensure your event is streamed live to your favourite platform while simultaneously sending the cut feed to screens in the venue and we record to edit subtitled highlight videos for upload. We’re also able to record interviews onsite with stakeholders and talents for later use.
eLearning Modules
eLearning is a modern and effective way to engage and impart information. When used in partnership with webinars and videos to reinforce teachable ideas, eLearning modules ensure that knowledge has been shared and learned.
SHINY has worked with Government agencies to create and deliver eLearning modules cross-branded with complimentary resources working with the Articulate 360 platform and many others.
