SHINY specialises in clear & direct video storytelling.

Creative video agency, SHINY, began life as Misfit Media Ltd. in 2007 originated by veteran television video editor and filmmaker, Adam Simpson. It grew out of Adam’s desire for more challenging and diverse work after a strong career editing the highest-rating shows on TVNZ including 1 News, Seven Sharp, Sunday and Fair Go. Adam has also been deeply privileged to work on Te Karere for more than half of its existence.

He has worked internationally at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Wrestlemania in San Jose, California, and in New Zealand from Wellington to Waitangi, and Christchurch to Ratana on some of New Zealand’s most important news stories of the past 20 years including editing and directing coverage of 7 general elections.

His strong experience goes past video editing and directing to pre-production necessities like creative concept development, project management and logistics, scriptwriting and storyboarding, to production with field/studio directing & video switching and in post-production video editing, motion graphic creation, colour grading, sound mixing, graphic design and media management.

SHINY’s video storytelling enables clients in Government, the charity sector and the corporate world to communicate with their audience in creative & engaging ways.

SHINY, alongside production partners Pixelz Ltd. has worked across Government and the private sector for 15 years creating engaging video resources for diverse audiences.  We’ve developed our own process for creating multilanguage projects including voice-overs and subtitles.

Our Principles

Like much of Aotearoa New Zealand, SHINY is on a Te Ao Māori journey. We’re committed to respect and dialogue. This commitment can be seen in our work among many cultures, ensuring diverse voices are heard accurately, and that messaging is tailored to respectfully reach into communities.  We’ve been privileged to work with the Ministry for Ethnic Communities whose work on ethnic diversity and inclusion is so important to the health of New Zealand society.
