SHINY specialises in clear & direct video storytelling.
SHINY began life as Misfit Media Ltd in 2007, started by video editor and filmmaker Adam Simpson after a career cutting TVNZ's highest-rating shows — 1 News, Seven Sharp, Sunday, Fair Go. He's also edited Te Karere for more than half its run.
He's worked internationally at the Beijing Olympics, at Wrestlemania in the United States, and across New Zealand from Wellington to Waitangi, Christchurch to Ratana — including editing and directing coverage of seven general elections.
Our experience runs the gamut: concept development, project management and scriptwriting up front; field and studio directing on set; editing, motion graphics, colour grading, sound mixing and media management after.
SHINY works with Government, the charity sector, and businesses who need to communicate clearly with their audience. Twenty years in, we've built our own processes for multi-language projects, including voice-overs & subtitling, and for social content clip packages.
Our Principles
Like much of Aotearoa New Zealand, SHINY is on a Te Ao Māori journey. We’re committed to respect and dialogue. This commitment can be seen in our work among many cultures, ensuring diverse voices are heard accurately, and that messaging is tailored to respectfully reach into communities. We’ve been privileged to work with the Ministry for Ethnic Communities whose work on ethnic diversity and inclusion is so important to the health of New Zealand society.
Adam Simpson has edited and directed for New Zealand's top-rated shows — Q+A with Jack Tame, Sunday, Fair Go, Seven Sharp — and internationally for the ABC (US), BBC, TVNZ, Māori Television, and the Beijing Olympics.
In 2024 he added Country Calendar, New Zealand's longest-running television show, to his credits as an offline editor.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Otago.
